Heath: Medic’s HeavenBuses: 21,24,27 Bike to city center: 10 minutes tops, and 5 to the University (it’s downhill, so double your time for cycling home!) On foot to city center: University closer than city center, allow 15 minutes.
Dominated by the University Hospital, and the fabulous grounds attached to it, if you are a medic you’ll want to start looking here to keep you close to work. The area commonly known as the Heath is immediately north of Cathays. On the north side of the A48 there is the middle class suburb of the Heath, with lots of semi’s and wide leafy streets, but the most popular place for rentals is south of the A48, which is much closer to town, and the University.
Most accommodation to be found off both sides of the main road, larger properties on streets such as Australia, Canada and New Zealand, smaller ones on the other side of the main road, such as Manor Street.
Good shopping, including a Co-op, dental surgery, horse tackle shop, computer shops, and plenty of take-aways including Greek. If you are in the money you can decorate your pad with furniture from Cardiff’s up-market furniture and interiors department store, Maskrey’s.
Highlights: the cemetery, for walks if you are into that kind of thing, otherwise head down to the top of Roath Park and its lovely boating lake for some green space. Pubs include the Heath.
